The developers of Dafel: Bloodline, to be published by Sadeness Software have recently changed their name to Corruption Software, moved their web site and more importantly updated details and sent some early in game screenshots.
Corruption Software are a group of dedicated Amiga coders spread about the world (UK, USA, Sweden, Portugal) who have banded together on the internet to form a new coding group. Their first game, Dafel:Blodline is an RPG, mixing the old Zelda type game to modern Beat-em-ups and is the first in a series of RPG games set to come from them.
The game centres around a character named Dafel and the quests he has to complete. It is interesting to note that Bloodline is based upon a written story allowing them to improve it for use in creating a strong storyline for the game. The story is based upon Dafel's conflict with his old religion and the new religion that is sweaping across his land. Dafel is a knight of this new religion (although he used to believe in the old religion) and finds out quite harshly that he is being used for evil means. There will be twists and turns to keep the enjoyment going.
The in-game animations have been 3D modelled while the in-game graphics have been drawn skillfully by hand. It was pleasing to hear from Corruption Software that their calls for graphics artists were successful with over 20 requests for the position.
Dafel: Bloodline uses their own FSG sound system that mixes atmospheric CD music to sound effects. Half of the audio channels available are reserved for environment samples that change dynamical as Dafel investigates his surroundings. For example, if Dafel is walking through a woods, then the sounds of birds can be heard, if he then walks near a cliff edge, the sound of wind blowing appears. The second half of the audio channels have been reserved for sound objects. These allow objects and locations to be "tagged" to sounds and for that sound to then be play relative to Dafel's location on the map. If Dafel hears a bell and he is standing to the left of it, then the sound will emerge from the right speaker, similary if Dafel is standing on the opposite side of the object, the sound will come from the corresponding speaker. Also, the closer Dafel is to the sound, the louder it will be heard. Likewise, the further away Dafel is, then the quieter the sound will be heard. This allows them to add surround style sound to the game and also means we can have purely sound based puzzles and objects. Currently only basic Paula sound is supported, but in the near furture they hope to add support for AHI. This sounds like a very exciting addition that will add a certain amount of atmosphere not experienced before.
Dafel: Bloodline will require an 030 processor, CD Drive with two versions, an Aga version that needs 4-6MB Fast Ram and a RTG version that needs 4MB Chip Ram and 4-6MB Fast Ram. It's recommended that your Amiga is hooked up to a good stereo/ amplifier/ headphone socket for the FSG Sound Objects to be heard correctly.
